Blog #5: Advertising and Public Relations

My Final interview with Greg was about advertising and public relations. He first described that he would often notice billboards for vacation/sightseeing locations, such as Meramac caverns and gas stations. One of the advertisements that he remembers the most was Stuckies; There was always this advertisement for a place called Stuckies. It was a restaurant that served in these wooden bowls that you could take home. It was such a neat idea.                     Image Source: https://www.i70signshow.org/database/billboard-categories/tag/Meramec%20Caverns                                             A Billboard advertising Meramec Caverns, a hot spot back in the day/ Greg told me about all of the advertisements that he would see painted on the side of buildings downtown. Blog Post #4: Print Media

My fourth interview with Greg was over print media. In his home, there were usually only two newspapers: the St. Louis Post Dispatch and the Global Democrat. These would just sit on the coffee table during the day, and he would occasionally pick them up for a read. The only magazine they every had was the Parade, which came inside the newspapers.                                            Image Source:  https://www.newspapers.com/title_4064/st_louis_postdispatch/                                                         A sample page of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch Every morning I would get up and there on the coffee table they[the newspapers] would be sitting. I always liked to read them and do the crossword pu...

Blog Post #3: Movies

My Third interview with Greg was over Movies. My father has a long history them. One of his favorite places to go see movies was at the Drive-in Theater on 66 Watson. He went there almost every week, whether that was alone, with friends, or on a date. The Drive-In was only open in the evenings so that you could see the screen. Most of the time he would park in the back to "see the screen better". When he was younger, he would go on the playgrounds during the intermission of the movies                                           Image source:  http://cinematreasures.org/theaters/8620                   This is the same theater that Greg went to when he was younger. unfortunately, it is demolished now  I would always go and get a candy bar at the concession stand before the movie started. My parents would get popcorn, but ...

Blog Post #2: Television

My Second Interview with Greg was over Television. Mostly this interview revolved around when he first experienced TV. He thinks that in today's world, We take for granted just what a feat the invention of TV was. When I would get home from school, the first thing that my sisters and I would do is sit down in front of our blond-colored TV and watch programs like Howdy Doody and the Micky Mouse club."      Not only was his TV blonde colored, which is very rare today, it also had a very dim gray-black screen. The picture wasn't perfect, but it was still amazing to see shows, and how fun it was to follow the story. Back in the day, TV only had four channels, so there wasn't much variety. TV also only ran for around 3 hours, so time was very limited.                                            http://www.pics4learning.com/details.php?i...

Blog Post #1: Audio

The First interview with my father had been over Audio. Specifically the kinds of records that he had listened to during his years of schooling and radio. Greg had mainly gotten his records for his birthday, of which were hits from the radio. He enlightened me on the three different kinds of records that existed. The smallest ones were 45 rpm. Which is what all of the top hits were on. LP's[albums] were 33.3 rpm, and singles were done on 78 rpm.                             Image Source: https://www.history-of-rock.com/record_formats.htm As I said earlier, Greg had gotten many of his records for his birthday, so his mom would get him whatever was hot during that time. He didn't have a particular taste in music, he listened to almost everything. What I listened to the most was definitely the Beatles. They were huge in the 60s, It was impossible to walk 10 feet without hearing someone talk abo...
